Ken Cooley and his wife Sydney moved into Rancho Cordova in 1977 and have been active members of Cordova Neighborhood Church on Coloma Road since that time. Their first home was on Mills Station Road near Portsmouth Drive. Their two sons, Philip and Bryce, who grew up in Rancho Cordova and still live and work here, are Cordova High and university grads. ||
| Robert J. McGarvey - Rancho Cordova City Council Candidate | ||
|
Bob McGarvey first became familiar with the community of Rancho Cordova when he was stationed at Mather AFB in 1963. Bob and his wife Terri bought their first home in Rancho Cordova in 1967. All four of their children graduated from Cordova High School. Bob began and chaired the Rancho Cordova Incorporation Committee from January 1986 to November 2002 when the citizens of Rancho Cordova voted 78% to incorporate. Bob was elected to Rancho Cordova's first City Council, was elected again in 2004, served as Mayor in 2006, and this November asks for your vote for the Rancho Cordova City Council. |
||
| David Sander - Rancho Cordova City Council Candidate | ||
|
Making Rancho Cordova better and safer will always be my top priority. As Mayor, I created the Strong Neighborhoods Initiative - which helped clean-up bad areas, required absentee landlords to clean-up their run down property, reduced crime and increased property values which will stimulate the renewal of our community. |

Even in these
tough economic times, we've balanced the City budget every year
without new taxes; built solid budget reserves to protect
taxpayers and safeguard vital programs; and helped bring new
jobs and businesses to Rancho Cordova. |

|
David was elected
to the original Rancho Cordova City Council in 2002, and
re-elected in 2004. Sander served as Mayor of Rancho Cordova in
2006-2007, and as a boardmember of the Sacramento Regional
Transit Board which he chair in 2005-2006. He also has
leadership roles in both the League of California Cities, and
the National League of Cities. |

| David Ivazian - CRPD Board of Directors Candidate | ||
|
I am very happy and proud to announce that I am a candidate for the Cordova Recreation and Park District (CRPD) Board of Directors. There are no incumbents running this time around; however, there have been 7 individuals who have entered the race. |
||
| r | r | r |
|
I would like to state in a most positive way, that I am the most qualified candidate in the field. See my attached Bio. For over 2 ½ years, I have personally attended the vast majority of the CRPD Board meetings. I have listened and learned about what is happening in the District, first hand. Many times I was the only public citizen in attendance, but that did not stop me from critiquing many of the problems facing the District. During that time I have reviewed and critiqued 3 separate fiscal budgets. I have been instrumental in protesting, what some might call, the illegal assessments via the Park Assessment District that the California Supreme Court ruled in July 2008 contained unconstitutional special benefits. |
||
| r | r | r |
|
The CRPD Board has been lax when managing the People’s money. In essence, this agency has become one that supports public employees over the general public’s welfare. When major corporations in USA were facing bankruptcy, these firms ceased offering Defined Benefit Pension Plans as contrasted with the more business friendly 401K plans; however, our Board adopted in 2006 a new Defined Benefit Pension Plan that has cost the District hundreds of thousand of dollars. Recently, the final Budget, which was approved for the next fiscal year, shows a 33% increase in personnel spending and hiring. What for? In September 2007, the Rancho Cordova City Council sent an embarrassing and threatening letter to the CRPD Board Chairman stating that the management and leadership of the District was in failure mode. And to make matters worse, over the years, many of the major projects in the District were being accomplished behind schedule and the actual costs greatly exceeded budgeted costs. I can attest to the problems, because I was there and have written many articles describing, in detail, these failures. |
||

|
The CRPD is a very large and complicated District. We have the new and the old communities. We have the City of Rancho Cordova competing with communities such as Rosemont, Larchmont, Riviera East, Mather and Gold River that are outside the City limits. Within the City you have the new areas ( Sunridge and Village of Zinfandel) competing with the older areas of the City that contain parks that have been allowed to deteriorate. This complex maize is a nightmare for those who lack proper management and leadership skills. There are the problems associated with recreation and park activities, with City/Park District maintaining different requirement goals, with our agreements with the various school districts, with the utilization of police to protect park interests, and finally, with the American River Parkway stakeholder overview. |
||
| r | r | r |
|
Yes, the District faces a myriad of problems. Yet, we must move beyond the problems and commit to the community. This election is about who can best help turn the District around. I have the management and leadership skills, which will enable us, the people, to turn the District into a Dream. The most important first step that I have argued is to develop a master plan and strategy for the whole district. The City of Rancho Cordova must be involved in the process, for ultimately, they also have the right for City parks to resemble their ideals. Then, again, the older sections of the park district must be renovated to bring back pride to each separate community and neighborhood. All of the communities must get actively involved in this process. |
||
| r | r | r |
|
To me, it is all about bringing all of the communities together to represent one goal: A first class Board leading a first class District containing first class Parks and first class Recreation programs for all. |
||

|
I would really like to address your association regarding CRPD. Please let me know when you can schedule such an event. |

| Education and Qualifications: I have lived in the Sacramento area since 1999 and I love the community. As an active member of Rotary, I believe in being active in community affairs for the growth and the development of family values. | ||
| r | r | r |
| Previously, I held staff management positions in government/public affairs, community relations, and cooperative education. It provided opportunity to do something for somebody else, to sense fulfillment which comes in the process and brings returns to one’s own life. If you elect me, I vow a tireless effort to drive projects forward improving community services for the enjoyment of families and friends. | ||

| Rick Sloan - CRPD Board of Directors Candidate | ||
| Parks and recreation programs bring fun and good health to our community. I am committed to quality programs, safe parks, and financial accountability. We need to make the most of the investments we’ve started and plan for the future of our communities’ parks and programs. | ||
| r | r | r |
| Living in the community for 22 years, I served on my neighborhood association board and the Sacramento County Fair Board, coached little league, and volunteered in the community and at my children’s school. I created the Rancho Cordova City Seal and started and named the first City newsletter, the Rancho Cordova City Views. For the last four years, I have donated my time and artistic talent in creating the logos for the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Celebration. | ||
| r | r | r |
| I
have built strong relationships and have the support of many
community leaders such as: Guy Anderson, Cordova High Coach and

Coach; Troy Konarski, Sunriver resident; Roger Benton, Folsom
Cordova School Board President; Ed Short, Folsom Cordova School
Board Member; Linda Budge, Mayor Rancho Cordova; Ken Cooley,

| For nearly 30 years, I have promoted non-profit organizations, public agencies, and private businesses with my award winning commercial art, specializing in marketing, public relations and graphic design. As a small business owner, I know the importance of working with limited funds, staying on budget and making deadlines. We need to be effective in communicating all the park district has to offer you and your neighborhoods. | ||
| r | r | r |
| My wife, Rebecca, worked for a State Senator and the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. She brought parents and volunteers to the classroom, from business, police, fire departments and community service groups to promote reading and academic performance. And with three kids of our own, we appreciate the value of safe and fun recreation opportunities. | ||
| r | r | r |
| Sports, arts, and playgrounds in new and old neighborhoods . . . this we all enjoy, but we need to focus on our diverse community’s changing needs. We must keep programs affordable and our parks safe places to gather for our seniors, youth, and all of us in between. | ||
| r | r | r |
| You can be sure I will listen to your concerns and know where we need to improve. Please vote for me for Park Board and I will make sure we have something fun for everyone. | ||

| Sacramento Municipal Utility Board of Directors Ward 2 | ||
| Nancy Bui - SMUD Board of Directors Candidate | ||
| Our SMUD Director, Susan Patterson announced she is retiring and has endorsed me to replace her on the Sacramento Municipal Utility Board of Directors. Rancho Cordova residents have an opportunity to elect a SMUD Director who shares our Rancho Cordova Values. As the only candidate from Rancho Cordova, I know what the needs of our community are and the importance of keeping our SMUD rates low. In 2003, I worked tirelessly to help Rancho Cordova become a city. As business owner in Rancho Cordova, I know the importance of building relationships with companies to maintain and develop the health of our local economy. By expanding SMUD’s partnerships and incentive programs, I will strive to retain companies and attract new businesses to Rancho Cordova and the Sacramento region. | ||
| r | r | r |
| With the tough decisions that SMUD will need to make regarding our energy supply and technology solutions, as the only candidate with business, energy and technology experience, my background has prepared me to make responsible planning decisions to ensure our rates stay the one of the lowest California. | ||
| r | r | r |
| As a SMUD Board Director, I will continually work to maintain safe, clean, green, reliable power at affordable rates. As a business analyst and technology consultant for the California ISO, the organization that regulates the California energy grid, I have worked closely with energy agencies and our government to bridge the gap between technology and business. As a former Controller, I understand the importance of fiscal accountability to ensure that all savings are passed on to you, the ratepayer. I will continue to support and expand SMUD’s incentive programs for customers and businesses willing to invest in energy efficiency measures. | ||
| r | r | r |
| On the Sacramento Transportation and Air Quality collaborative I represented the City of Rancho Cordova. For almost seven years, the Collaborative developed a long range and comprehensive strategy for the Sacramento countywide area to improve transportation and air quality within a regional context, including relevant land use and economic vitality strategies. | ||
| r | r | r |
| I have served on the Board of Directors for Sacramento Advocates for Girls Empowerment, a non profit that is entirely devoted to the encouragement and empowerment of middle-school and high-school girls in pursuit of careers in computer-related technology, life sciences, engineering, science, math and law. | ||
| r | r | r |
| I bring the real world to students as a volunteer teacher for Junior Achievement (JA). JA Worldwide is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. | ||
| r | r | r |
| My family immigrated to the United States in 1975 from Vietnam. My mother raised three daughters on her own in Silicon Valley. I worked my way through college and am the only person in my entire family to ever graduate from college. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, with degrees in Economics and Management Information Systems. | ||
| r | r | r |
| Over 30 of our elected leaders in the Sacramento Region, including Directors on the SMUD Board support me in my race. I am honored to be endorsed by our Vice Mayor Dan Skogland, our Rancho Cordova City Councilmembers Ken Cooley and Bob McGarvey, SMUD Board President Larry Carr, SMUD Board Members Susan Patterson, Genevieve Shiroma, Peter Keat and Bill Slaton, Folsom Cordova Unified School District Vice President Ed Short, FCUSD Members Richard Shaw and Mary McCormick, Brian Cooley Sacramento County Board of Education Trustee, Rancho Cordova Planning Commissioners Ray Savorn and Troy Konarski, Sacramento Metro Firefighters along with over 20 elected officials in our region. | ||
