About: The Cordova Towne neighborhood is located just North of Highway 50 within the "Riverside" portion of the city of Rancho Cordova. The tract houses were built between 1956-1962 and contain the typical era elements of brick fireplaces, wood floors, wide streets, and decent-sized lots. Cordova Towne is located in the Southwestern White Rock area of Rancho Cordova and has a large range of ages, cultures, lifestyles, and languages spoken, as well as a population of Veterans sprinkled throughout. Though Cordova Towne is located South of Mills Station / White Rock Road, we enjoy connecting with fellow neighbors North of White Rock Road within the Northern territory of the White Rock area. We all face common issues and have very common geography, so it makes sense for us to collaborate and be strategic about helping our community grow in a positive direction. We do hope to eventually see another association emerge for the Northern White Rock area. |

The Cordova Towne Neighborhood Association is run by a group of dedicated volunteer residents for the sake of uniting our neighborhood in order to further develop dynamic community. We have a vision for a neighborhood that communicates well, takes care of its residents, spends time outdoors enjoying our neighborhood environment, is safe for our kids to play in, says no to crime and stands against it, and works hard to enjoy and maintain our freedom in Rancho Cordova. We are not a Home Owner's Association, we do not have membership fees, nor do we have the power to enforce code or regulations for the neighborhood (and we are not seeking that power either by any means). The real focus is on people, with the main idea that the more we can learn to communicate, enjoy life together, own a vision for the neighborhood, and act decisively, the better off our neighborhood will be. |

We believe that anyone can make a difference in the community and that what truly makes a neighborhood great is its residents. We believe that each household has something to contribute to the overall wellbeing of the neighborhood and that neighborliness is not a pastime. Our neighborhood is a wonderful place and it is our privilege to help it get even better. |

What does it look like to build a stronger community? Well, we think that it is probably mostly found in the simple actions of every day life. It is when you wave to a car passing by, when you have a neighbor over for dinner, when you introduce yourself to someone who just moved in, or when you ride bikes with another family in the neighborhood. It is when you say hello to neighborhood kids, when you help someone fix a car or fence, when you take a walk with a neighbor, and when you sip a cup of coffee with someone next door. Community building happens when residents spearhead a landscaping project, when local crime is not tolerated, when a group attends a city council meeting, or when you pick up a neighbor's mail while she is on vacation. It occurs when someone lends you a tool, when a group of residents make meals for a cancer patient, or when 30+ residents show up for a painting project. In a nutshell, community building is really a lifestyle. It is not one more thing we have to add to our busy schedules, but really something that we choose in the small decisions of every day life. Community building is about developing relationships and being intentional about improving the community you live in. |

Where is a good place to start? We think that the best place to begin is to talk with your neighbors more often. Find a reason to have conversation with the people you live close to. Borrow a tool, ask advice about something, offer a helping hand, or initiate a BBQ on the front lawn. You might even consider parking in the driveway if that creates a reason to interact with others more regularly. Through conversation we begin to communicate more effectively as a neighborhood, we start to get a feel for the true needs of the community, and we get to find simple ways to act decisively to improve our area. All of us have something to bring to the table and we get to use our abilities, talents, passions, and even hobbies for the sake of the neighborhood. And we can have fun doing it!!! |

We are always looking for residents who would like to become involved in our efforts in terms of planning events, expressing leadership, organizing and implementing a solid neighborhood leadership core, passing out flyers, making signs, promoting events, etc... What do you dream of for our neighborhood to be like? What is it that you think is working well already? What is it that you think could use a change and what are the solutions? What role (small or big) could you potentially play in all of this? Do you have any ideas for events? Let's get creative. |

ATTENTION STUDENTS: For your senior project at Cordova High, you are invited to consider the possibility of helping your very own neighborhood experience change over the course of your Senior year through various projects and ideas that you implement along side of resident leaders. Or if you need community service hours, let's talk about the possibility of you getting involved in something that will impact the neighborhood. Please contact the Site Administrator to share any ideas you might have as well as brainstorm possibilities. |
